Top Ten disappointments of 200510. Xenosaga: Episode II The first game in the series was epic and engrossing. For some reason the creators didn't think they needed to make the second nearly as engaging. It's sad to say this is disappointing.
9. XBOX360 isn't backwards compatible It seems trivial that this would be a disappointment, but it is! The XBOX360 is smaller, takes up less space. Gamers wishing to free up space (or play some Halo) will have to set their XBOX up again. This is sad considering how easy it was for the PS2 to do backwards compatibility. Was it too much to ask Microsoft?
8. XBOX360 Without a Hardrive Oh yeah, this is bad. Especially with games that'll be here in the future! No hard drive was built into the system, and that may upset some Microsoft fanboys...
7. True Crime: New York City Streets of LA was grand, why was this so... bogged down? For more information, see the review. This is what we call wasted potential... and not enough time spent in development
6. The Gameboy Micro I'm not sure why this is even in existence. The Gameboy Advance SP is much better, and with the Nintendo DS and PSP lighting up the handheld market, why on earth would Nintendo waste time with another Gameboy Advance? Mix that in with being unable to play regular gameboy games (which you can also do in the SP) and with a surprisingly smaller and more vulnerable screen, the GBA Micro is better off being on the shelf.
5. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness 3D Castlevania games shouldn't even be conceived. With how much time and effort is placed into the 2D versions, it's sad that the 3D games don't get the same treatment. Likewise, it's clear that Konami is capable of giving them the treatment they need. Look at games like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. We know Konami is capable of quality games. This is a stake through the heart to Castlevania fans.
4. Kingdom Hearts II Delay The sequel has been long awaited and we hear that it's getting pushed back once again. That's a damn shame considering how many people are waiting for it. Oh well, that means the final project should be good, right?
3. Movie Games With the exception of King Kong, there aren't any good movie games out there. Lord of the Rings games are slowly declining as well, and Harry Potter (while never being much to get excited about anyway) may even leave kids sadly disappointed. After the Lord of the Rings games, and Spider Man 2 (which was good, despite not being THAT close to the movie) it seemed like movie based games were going up... well, they apparently reached some kind of high point, because now they're going down.
2. The delay of The Legend of Zelda for Gamecube Ever since they started playing trailors for this game in early 2004, everyone was ecstatic about it. And then it suffered delay after delay after delay, and not we hear it may be here in time for the Revolution! As if Gamecube owners aren't suffering enough as it is!
1. The Gamecube It's a shame that the Gamecube has been around for four years, and yet there are still very few worthwhile games. After the XBOX neatly pulled itself out of the decline, the Gamecube slides further. It's only saving grace, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, won't make it to the system this year, and might as well be pushed back to the Revolution. It should be known that Nintendo used to rule the gaming world... what happened?
With the only good games still being the juggernauts that came around in 2001 and 2002, it's sad to see that even this Holiday season they have nothing! And what good games there are on the Gamecube can easily be found on other systems, and most of them look better, too. Easily the biggest disappointment of the year is the little progress made on the Nintendo Gamecube. Trust me, the best game on the system is STILL Super Smash Brothers Melee, and it looks like it'll continue to be the best game. |
